Do you like Black Napkins? Would you listen to over 5 hours of Black Napkins solos? Then this is the extended edition for you! This starts off with the beginning of black napkins and goes through every Black Napkins solo section (with good sound quality) from the fall 75 and winter 76 bands (in mostly chronological order) and then ends with the end of black napkins. This creates the illusion of one giant performance of black napkins as best as I could. Enjoy! Go above and beyond with your support of this channel by checking out my ko-fi page: 🤍 This compilation is constructed from Audience tapes, Some of the tapes are not of amazing sound quality but are all listenable (at least graded a B) I would appreciate a like and a comment for what other Frank Zappa songs you would like me to do this to. Enjoy! Maybe you are a Frank Zappa fan and want a place to talk to other Frank Zappa fans, or are new to Frank Zappa and want some guidance on Frank Zappa's large body of work, you can do that and more on Zappacord! Zappacord is a free discord server where you can talk to other Frank Zappa fans! Hope to talk to you there! Link to join: 🤍 Thanks for watching! Tracklist: 0:00 Black Napkins

Zappa Plays Zappa is an American tribute act led by Dweezil Zappa, the eldest son of late American composer and musician Frank Zappa, devoted to performing the music of Frank Zappa. A DVD documenting the 2006 tour was released in early 2008, which this video is from. Filmed in Portland and Seattle, The Zappa Plays Zappa Double DVD collection brilliantly commemorates the critically acclaimed 2006 concerts which presented a collection of Frank Zappa's rock-oriented compositions. The band debuted in 2006 with shows in Europe, Canada, and the United States during May and June (the tour was also known as Zappa Plays Zappa: Tour de Frank'). The shows presented a collection of Frank Zappa's rock-oriented compositions from the 1960s to the late 1970s. Apart from Dweezil Zappa on lead guitar, many of the band members previously played with Frank Zappa. Among those, Napoleon Murphy Brock (sax, flute, and vocals) was an integral part of the band, while drummer/vocalist Terry Bozzio and guitarist Steve Vai performed as guests in parts of the shows. At several shows the live band played along with audio and video recordings of Frank Zappa himself, notably portions of "Chunga's Revenge", "Dumb All Over", "Cosmik Debris", and "Muffin Man."Frank Zappa's bands underwent many changes of members, and Zappa Plays Zappa has done the same. The first changes came in 2009–2010, starting with the departure of Aaron Arntz from the keyboard chair, followed quickly by the replacement of guest vocalist Ray White with the hiring of full-time singer/multi-instrumentalist Ben Thomas. Shortly thereafter, keyboardist/singer Chris Norton was added to the lineup. Changes have been made since, and most likely will continue to do so as Dweezil continues in his father's footsteps. "Black Napkins" is the second song from Frank Zappa's 22nd album titled Zoot Allures. The song was recorded live on February 3, 1976 in Osaka, Japan. Zoot Allures was his only release on the Warner Bros. Records label. Due to a lawsuit with his former manager, Herb Cohen, Zappa's recording contract was temporarily reassigned from DiscReet Records to Warner Bros. The title is a pun on the French expression "Zut alors!", which conveys mild surprise. The performance heard on the album was culled from Zappa's February 3, 1976 performance in Osaka, Japan, though it was edited for the official release. "Black Napkins" became a signature piece for Zappa, featuring heavily in nearly every subsequent tour and several official releases. *Zappa performed "Black Napkins" on the Mike Douglas show with the Mike Douglas Orchestra on October 28, 1976. Dweezil Zappa - Lead Guitar Aaron Arntz - Keyboards Scheila Gonzalez - Vocals Billy Hulting - Mallet Percussion (xylophone) Pete Griffin - Bass Joe Travers - Drums Jamie W. A long time ago I wanted to publish this video. In 1988 the formation of the Zappa group was very good, a shame that did not last long. Here one of the best versions of the song "Black napkins" if not the best. The quality of the audio and video I made is really good compared to other publications. Look for more of Frank Zappa and other Progressives in my channel "Mike42 CyberProgX" and opine. To the owners or copyright holders: I do not intend to claim some kind of authorship of the song or the video. Just share the material to the rest of the world.

("Orchestral Favorites" Outtake 1975) Notes About This Song From FZ's introduction to Ljubliana, Yugoslavia, 11-22-1975 song's performance. (Frank Zappa Plays The Music Of Frank Zappa) "This is... this is an instrumental song, it's a tender, slow, moving ballad sort of song that cares with it the implied message that the complete woman must also have an asshole..." Later he said these words (found uncredited in Barry Miles book Frank Zappa - A Visual Documentary. p.71 ) "Black Napkins is a song I've had for year or more but it was finally named last Thanksgiving when we were having this horrible Thanksgiving dinner in Milwaukee. Sliced turkey roll with the fucking preservatives just gleaming off it, and this beat-up cranberry material. The final stroke to this ridiculous dinner was the black napkins, sitting next to the dishes. That really said the most about the dinner"

I know this song since I was 15 or so. I remember I downloaded a compilation of "the 100 greatest guitar solos" and between all the well known solos there was Black Napkins. I didn't know Zappa at that time and this song was my first experience with his music. I still remember the feeling I had that day, it was like discovering a whole new universe I didn't know existed. The main theme of the song was always special to me, it's so melancholic and mysterious. Learning this song was a real journey, I had to slow down the original track and really focus on micro phrases inside the bars to barely understand Frank's playing. I always wanted to play this right and I hope you enjoy my rendition of this timeless song!
