The Korean War gets a lot less attention than the wars that America participated in immediately before and after it, World War Two and The Vietnam War. But anyone who is interested in history and why the world is the way it is today should know about The Korean War. Understanding the Korean War shows how the American armed services went from being a force that could destroy Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan to a military that failed to stop the communist takeover in Vietnam. In some ways, the Korean War was almost much more disastrous for the Americans than Vietnam. In fact, at one point, the North Koreans almost pushed the American Army out of the country for good. And the South Koreans, whom the Americans were allied with, did some terrible things that will make you wonder why the US even wanted to fight for them in the first place. At least two million civilians died, although that number might be much closer to three million. Similarly, the combined military deaths were at least 500,000 and might be well over one million. But it was also a weird war, where both sides made some strange decisions. Today let’s go back in time to reveal weird and sad things about the Korean War that you didn’t know. The Korean War began on June 25, 1950, when some 75,000 soldiers from the North Korean People’s Army poured across the 38th parallel, the boundary between the Soviet-backed Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the north and the pro-Western Republic of Korea to the south. This invasion was the first military action of the Cold War. By July, American troops had entered the war on South Korea’s behalf. As far as American officials were concerned, it was a war against the forces of international communism itself. After some early back-and-forth across the 38th parallel, the fighting stalled and casualties mounted with nothing to show for them. Meanwhile, American officials worked anxiously to fashion some sort of armistice with the North Koreans. The alternative, they feared, would be a wider war with Russia and China–or even, as some warned, World War III. Finally, in July 1953, the Korean War came to an end. In all, some 5 million soldiers and civilians lost their lives in what many in the U.S. refer to as “the Forgotten War” for the lack of attention it received compared to more well-known conflicts like World War I and II and the Vietnam War. The Korean peninsula is still divided today. The Cold War seems like a time long ago, but it defined the 20th century with its ideological battles and countless wars. One of the forgotten wars of this era is the Korean War that was fought between North Korea which was supported by China and the Soviet Union and South Korea that was supported by a combined force of the United Nations. The Korean War is the reason we have two countries in the Korean Peninsula today separated by the 38th parallel line. The Korean War killed millions of people, including close to three million civilian casualties. Five Crucial Facts About the Korean War

18.07.2019

During WWII, two global super powers emerged including the United States and the Soviet Union. Both powers held strong beliefs on how a society should be run, thus prolonging the conflict between the capitalist and communist societies. The first step to understanding the divide lies in the 38th parallel; a horizontal line that split North and South Korea. The United States took hold of the South while the Soviet Union controlled the North. The president of the United States, Harry Truman saw the spread of communism to be a global threat and used his power to prevent the North Korean invasion. With the help of the United Nations, American forces managed to regain lost territory and reclaim the South Korean capital, Seoul. The war continued for two more years as negotiation talks dragged on. By 1953, Dwight Eisenhower was elected as the new president of the Unites States. Eisenhower vowed to end the war once in for all. A few months later, Soviet Union leader Joseph Stalin passed away and the armistice was signed as truce was achieved. Today, the Korean Demilitarised Zone which was established in July 27, 1953 maintains the division between North and South Korea. The zone is deemed the most heavily guarded border in the world. #Biography #KoreanWar Subscribe for more Biography: 🤍 Delve deeper into Biography on our site: 🤍 Follow Biography for more surprising stories from fascinating lives: Facebook - 🤍 Instagram - 🤍 Twitter - 🤍 Biography.com captures the most gripping, surprising, and fascinating stories about famous people: The biggest break. Korean War: Intense Korean War Documentary After the first two months of the conflict, South Korean forces were on the point of defeat, forced back to the Pusan Perimeter. In September 1950, an amphibious UN counter-offensive was launched at Inchon, and cut off many of the North Korean troops. Those that escaped envelopment and capture were rapidly forced back north all the way to the border with China at the Yalu River, or into the mountainous interior. At this point, in October 1950, Chinese forces crossed the Yalu and entered the war.[38] Chinese intervention triggered a retreat of UN forces which continued until mid-1951. After these dramatic reversals of fortune, which saw Seoul change hands four times, the last two years of conflict became a war of attrition, with the front line close to the 38th parallel. The war in the air, however, was never a stalemate. North Korea was subject to a massive bombing campaign. Jet fighters confronted each other in air-to-air combat for the first time in history, and Soviet pilots covertly flew in defense of their communist allies. 🤍 🤍 🤍 🤍

North and South Korea have both fired missiles landing in waters off each other's coasts for the first time. Seoul retaliated on Wednesday three hours after Pyongyang launched a missile that landed less than 60km (37mi) off the South's city of Sokcho. The South's military said this was an "unacceptable" breach of its territory. It fired three air-to-ground missiles in response, which officials said landed a similar distance past the Northern Limit Line (NLL). The line marks the rough midway-point in the sea between North and South Korea, but the North has never accepted the boundary. Please subscribe HERE 🤍 #NorthKorea #SouthKorea #BBCNews

After basic training Sharp was sent to NCO school, but this training was cut short with the news that North Korea has crossed the 38th Parallel and ignited the Korean War. Sharp found himself quickly shipped to the Korean Peninsula with the 1st Cavalry Division and was embedded into South Korea to help stop the advance of the KPA. He quickly became a seasoned combat veteran experiencing everything from chaotic firefights to intense hand-to-hand combat with the enemy. On April 7, 1951 Sharp would be wounded by an artillery round and receive the Purple Heart. He would serve the rest of his time in Korea recovering from his wounds behind the lines. North Korea tested an intercontinental ballistic missile over the weekend. The country aired the testing of the Hwasong-17 ICBM on television. Leading up to the launch, the weapon was driven out and the moment was paired with dramatic music. This testing came a day after the country warned of “fiercer military responses” to Washington strengthening its security presence in the region. Inside Edition Digital has more.

This clip is the prequel to "Defense of Longyuan Hill". It's an excerpt from the 2016 Chinese war drama, "38th Parallel". The 1st company is tasked with infiltrating and seizing the strategic location of Longyuan hill. From there, they could block the escape route of UN forces fleeing south from North Korean territory. This would effectively help the main forces of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army (PVA) to eliminate UN troops. On the educative front, the Chinese contemporary military tactics depiction here is the most realistic to date. In Korea War, PVA frequently sent detachment of troops to infiltrate behind UN frontlines. When in battle, PVA deployed 3-3 formations, with 3 soldiers forming a fire team, and 3 teams forming an attack squad. The 3 fire teams in an attack squad would advance in triangle, providing covering fire for each other as well as avoiding flanking enemies from the sides. Furthermore, with the 3-3 formation, soldiers are scattered far enough to reduce the efficiency of incoming explosives and heavy machine-gun fire. Most of the PVA's fire-support was provided by machine-gun squad, while the common soldiers took turns to fire their standard rifles to maintain a somewhat constant firing rate. Another often-deployed tactic was diversionary attack and flanking enemy positions from the back. All of these are accurately portrayed in this video. 本片是“龙缘峰守卫战”的上半集,两部短片均剪辑自电视剧《三八线》。
