Exploring ALGIERS, Capital City of ALGERIA 🇩🇿 دزاير

I spend a couple of days exploring Algiers دزاير, Algeria's capital city. I begin at the Martyrs' Memorial and Botanical Garden, before heading to the old city, where I visit Palais des Rais and the enchanting old streets of the Casbah (the largest Casbah in the Arabic world) and the Ketchaoua Mosque. Why was Algeria a part of France and not a colony? (Short Animated Documentary)

When most countries conquer overseas lands they keep them as colonies. Yet in the case of Algeria, France made it a part of France itself in the same way that Paris or Corsica were. So why did France do this and how did a part of France itself manage to become independent? What It's Like To Be A Billionaire In Algeria

It seems like every country on the entire planet has their own host of billionaires and multimillionaires who make massive fortunes and spend them on truly ridiculous things. We’ve covered the richest of the rich all over the world who indulge in big cars, big houses and big passions. We haven’t been to Algeria yet though. While many things are the same, you won’t believe some of the drama going on there. Some of these billionaires truly have an eye for style. Fine suits every single day. Only a few luxury cars in the garage. They are truly the coolest of the cool. Sometimes that comes with a price. Evidently the country is trying to crack down on widespread corruption everywhere. Some billionaires have just been skirting rules left and right. Some had secret lives of decadence and criminality that caused them to have to forfeit huge amounts of money. Though there’s at least one billionaire who lives in France now that seems to be a good guy. That’s something. Not to mention the auto industry issues. A few years ago it looked like the country was about to build itself a massive automobile empire. Then we saw the opposite happen. Widespread corruption led to these plans getting absolutely destroyed. Forget about luxury cars. In Algeria right now, just having a used car is a bit of a flex. So which of these billionaires spend their money the best? Only one way to find out! 10 Things You Didn't Know About Algeria

Hello Displorers, welcome to another informative video by Displore. As you all know it’s always a pleasure presenting to you some interesting but lesser known facts about the beautiful countries on the African continent. In this video, we are excited to present to you some lesser known facts about the beautiful country of Algeria. Officially known as The People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Algeria is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa. Algeria is bordered to the Northeast by Tunisia, to the east by Libya, to the west by Morocco, to the southwest by the Western Saharan territory, Mauritania, and Mali, to the southeast by Niger, and to the north by the Mediterranean Sea. It ranks 10th in terms of surface area in Africa and 32nd in population. As of 2019, the population was estimated at over 42million people. Its capital is Algiers and its current president is Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He won in 2019 Algerian presidential election on 12 December 2019 and assumed the office on 19 December 2019.Since the 2011 breakup of Sudan, Algeria has been the largest country in Africa. The official languages of Algeria are Arabic and Berber. If you are new here welcome, be sure to subscribe and turn on notification so you don’t miss any of our daily uploads. On July 3rd,1962, Angola gained its independence from France and its currency is the Algerian dinar. Buckle up displorers as we present to you 10 Things you probably didn’t know about Algeria. 1. Algeria is the Largest Country in the Africa. Algeria is the biggest country in Africa ,in fact it is some 14,000 square miles larger than the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is Africa’s second largest country. It’s also the 10th largest country in the world. There’s a bunch to see and do in Algeria, including seven UNESCO world Heritage sites, camel rides, sand surfing, beaches and more. Even though Algeria is large, much of the country is uninhabited. In fact, the majority of the population lives in about 12 percent of the country. Most of the rest is covered by the Sahara, which presents tourism opportunities even though it’s not a good environment for sustaining life. 2. Algeria is the land of Cherries and Dates. Algeria is commonly called the country of cherries and dates. This refers to the various types of weather found here; a mild climate in the north and a dry hot one in the Saharan south. Algerian dates are known to be some of the best on earth. Visitors are traditionally greeted by being offered dates and milk. 3. Hospitality Runs Deep. Hospitality is important among the Algerian people. It is a blend of Arabic customs with French Gallic traditions. Everyone is cordial to strangers and friends alike. In a small gathering, it is polite to greet each person individually, beginning with the elders. Handshakes are common but using your fingers to point at objects or people is considered rude. Never use the left hand separately: when handing someone something, do it with the right hand or both hands. 4. The national Animal of Algeria is the Fennec Fox With its disproportionately large ears, slanted eyes and pointy nose, the attractive little fennec fox or Vulpes zerda is the national animal of Algeria, and the nickname of the country’s national football team ‘Les Fennecs’. Also referred to as the ‘desert fox’ because it lives in the desert, the fennec is likely to be spotted in the arid regions of Algeria, as well as in other North African countries. The fennec is the world’s smallest canid species and well adapted to thrive in the often-harsh environment that is its home. It is considered to be of ‘least concern’ from a conservation standpoint, and raptors are the fennec’s main threat to survival. 5. Algerian women are very Decent. Even though Western clothing are common mostly in urban areas, traditional Muslim clothing is also common. In areas under Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) control, people wear some form of traditional garb, particularly the women. It is considered proper to be dressed conservatively in public and modest clothing is worn by all Algerians. The militant Islamists demand that women be veiled and they are more than willing to enforce their orders.

10 Things Not to Do in Algeria

Get more Tips here! 🤍 Algeria, that unknown and yet wonderful country. Not everybody thinks about it when thinking about their holidays but they should. So, to help you prepare your trip we bring you these Things not to do in Algeria. 1) Don't forget your visa The visa to Algeria isn’t particularly the easiest one and, unfortunately, it’s required for most countries in the world. So try to have it ready before you start your trip and you'll avoid a lot of trouble. 2) Don't Expect Sleep to Be Cheap Mass tourism doesn’t really exist in Algeria, so hotels are very expensive if we compare them with how cheap anything else is in the country. You can find prices from 30€ to 200€, although, most of them are over 50€ a night. If you're travelling with a lower budget you can always get a youth hostel instead where you'll pay around 2 € per night. On the other hand, you could always try CouchSurfing, making sure the people you choose look safe and have many positive references. It’s a great way to meet local people! 3) Don't forget your dictionary Most of the younger people do know English but don't hold on that because, it’s not that easy to find people who speak English. The official language in Algeria is Arabic and some people speak French as it was a French colony. So if you want to be able to communicate bring a dictionary in French. 4) Don't get a taxi Taxis are expensive and they usually try to cheat tourists. You can use the Yassir mobile app which is basically the same as Uber, or get a bus. Although, they don't tend to follow their schedules. Renting a car isn't that cheap either. And if you go to the desert try to book a flight, they're not too expensive and you’ll save some time too. 5) Don't forget your cell If you want to be able to move freely without a guide and find historical places, hotels or restaurants by yourself, don't forget to bring your cell phone and install the Waze app which is a free driving directions & live traffic map app that works the best in Algeria. 6) Don't travel everywhere Borders with Libya, Mauritania, Mali and (nisher) Niger are absolutely no-go zones in Algeria, they're the most dangerous ones, as are remote or mountains areas. But don't worry because these areas are far from all the tourist attractions. 7) Don't rely on having Wi-fi everywhere Sure big hotels, offices, and random apartments are sure to have a wifi connection. However, if you’re out and about and want to use the internet in Algeria you'll need to get a local sim card with data which will cost you around 5-10€ per month. And, out of the 3 different networks they have, choose Mobilis, it has a better range. 8) Don't forget your money Here, the local currency is Algerian dinar. And there are not many places where ATM machines accept international bank cards. Sure, you could try the airports, huge hotels like Sheraton or regular banks, but sometimes they're out of money. So to avoid being left without money, bring some emergency cash too . 9) Don't start your diet In Algeria, they eat a lot of fast food such as shawarma and fries, they're very cheap and you'll find them everywhere. But you can always go to a restaurant to eat nice food, if you prefer, which will cost you about the same as western European restaurants do. Oh, and don’t forget, drinking alcohol in public is forbidden. 10) Don't think it’s all just sand When people think of Algeria they imagine riding camels in the desert. But, guess what? There are also cars, buses and trains, just like your city, yep. This is a civilized country! Sure, the Sahara desert occupies four-fifths of the Algerian territory, but they also have a coastline, ancient Roman Empire ruins and stunning heritage of the Ottoman Empire, Spain, France and much more. Where do you want to know what not to do in next? Comment below!

Algeria procuring arms from Russia sends shivers down the West’s spine

Algeria has increased its defense budget to 23 billion dollars including 17 billion dollars that are planned as part of arms procurement from Russia. The North African country is currently hosting a joint military exercise with Russian troops in the area of Bechar near the Moroccan borders. Algeria is already among the top three buyers of Russian arms behind China and India with procurements worth 7 billion dollars in 2021. The rise in Algeria’s defense imports from $7 billion to $17 billion from Russia has sent shockwaves across Western nations. According to recent reports, a group of influential members of the European Parliament (MEPs) urged the head of the European Commission to review the association agreement with Algeria. MEPs from different groups sent a letter to EU chief Ursula Von der Leyen expressing “deep concern” at Algeria’s growing political, logistics and financial support to Moscow. ALGERIA | Will France ever say SORRY?

At the end of August 2022, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, visited Algeria. Coming as the country marks the 60th anniversary of its independence from French colonial rule - an independence won following a particularly bitter and brutal war - the aim was to try to rebuild relations between France and Algeria. However, although the leaders called for a new era in ties, many feel that Paris and Algiers cannot have a normal relationship until France formally apologises for colonial rule and the treatment of Algerians during the War of Independence. But while France has been willing to acknowledge the past, will it ever formally say sorry? Hello and welcome! My name is James Ker-Lindsay. Here I take an informed look at International Relations with a focus on conflicts, security, and statehood. If you like what you see, please do subscribe. If you want more, including exclusive content and benefits, consider becoming a channel member. Many thanks! SUBSCRIBE FOR FREE 🤍 JOIN THE CHANNEL 🤍 There were few colonial wars more bitter and brutal than the Algerian War of Independence. Bringing to an end 132 years of French rule, the war saw more than a million people killed, injured, and displaced. It also led to deep divisions within and across Algerian and French society. As well as the fighting between the French Army and the forces of the National Liberation Front, the FLN, it also saw fighting between the native Algerians and French settlers, the Pieds Noirs. On top of this, Algerians fought against Algerians as 200,000 Muslim Algerians served as French auxiliaries, the Harkis. As a result, the war left bitter divisions between France and Algeria, which finally won its independence in 1962. And even today, the effects are still being felt. Although President Macron has acknowledged the wrongdoings of the past, he has steadfastly refused to apologise, with officials close to him insisting none will be coming. But can relations ever be normal until France atones for its actions? The Biggest Country in Africa (ALGERIA)

► SUBSCRIBE for daily travel videos: 🤍 ► INSTAGRAM? Join me 🤍drewbinsky! ALGERIA... WHO KNEW IT'S THIS AMAZING? I've spent the last 4 days road tripping around the Northern Mediterranean coast of ALGERIA, and I have been absolutely stunned by what I've experienced. From the warm hearts to the stunning nature and complete mix of cultures, I can safely say that this country is one of the most underrated in the world. And it's huge... REALLY HUGE. After Sudan split into two countries in 2011, Algeria emerged as the largest country in Africa by size. It's so big that only 12% of the land is inhabited (with 44 million people), and over 90% of its surface is covered in the Sahara desert. If the visa wasn't so hard to get, then this country would explode in tourism. But I kind of like it the way it is I didn't come across a single tourist during my time here. Algeria is, without question, the most surprising country in Africa for me so far, and I know with certainty that I'll be back. Insha'Allah! Follow Drew Binsky for daily travel videos. Algerian Wedding | Al Jazeera World

A rare glimpse at people's daily lives in western Algeria as we go behind the scenes at three different weddings. Summer in Algeria - the largest Arab country in the world and the biggest in the African continent - is a popular time of year for traditional, elaborate weddings, particularly in the lead-up to Ramadan. At the heart of these celebrations are the brides with their hand-made outfits, their jewellery and the henna parties; as well as the delicious food that accompanies every step of the marriage process. Plus the music and armed horsemen in tribal war dress. This colourful film takes us through the rituals and significance of Algerian traditions by following three different wedding ceremonies. We speak to heritage researchers about Algeria's marriage traditions and see how engagements and arrangements are formalised. This film is an intimate look at the preparations and rituals of these rich and sumptuous family celebrations. - Subscribe to our channel: 🤍 - Follow us on Twitter: 🤍 - Find us on Facebook: 🤍 - Check our website: 🤍 #AlJazeeraEnglish #AlgerianWedding #AlgerianTraditions
