In this video I'm going to show how I built a basic CNC mill. Most of the hardware was sourced from spare / leftover parts I had laying around from other projects and ended up costing me under $100. It has a working area of approximately 250mm x 250mm x 70mm and is capable of milling aluminum (though somewhat rough). The axes are moved with small NEMA17 stepper motors running at 24V, driven by A4988 drivers. The brain of the machine is an Arduino Uno running GRBL firmware, and G-code is sent to it via. USB from a laptop running Universal Gcode Sender - so everything is open source. I have a little bit of experience operating a CNC mill, but this is the first one i've built / owned. The biggest learning experience from this build was that everything needs to be tightened up and made as rigid as possible to get good results. Between leadscrew backlash and rails flexing, the spindle could easily be moved +/- 1mm or more, which causes tons of vibration, chattering, rough cutting, and loss of precision. In a future video I'll be upgrading the spindle and beefing up the structure to use 16mm rails instead of 8mm for better rigidity. I don't recommend trying to build this design yourself, because I created the printed brackets based on parts i had on hand, not what was "optimal". Auf einer MakerFaire in Dortmund habe ich Birgit Hellendahl kennengelernt, die Workshops zum Selbstbau einer solchen Fräse anbietet und da war ich direkt Feuer und Flamme. Ein tolles Bastelprojekt zusammen mit dem Sohnemann... Den Workshop bei Birgit Hellendahl - CNC14 kann ich nur wärmstens empfehlen. Wer sich selbstständig auf den Weg machen will, sollte sich auf viele Recherche-Stunden im Internet und einiges an Problemen im Detail einstellen, kommt aber auch irgendwann ans Ziel. The Arduino microcontroller is capable of integrating with a CNC shield to control several stepper motors required for a 3-axis gantry found in CNC and 3D printing applications. Finalmente sono riuscito a portare a termine un progetto che mi frullava in mente da un pò di tempo. Ho progettato e costruito un controller per macchine a controllo numerico di tipo hobbistico ... ma non solo. E' un' apparecchiatura open source, quindi si presta bene ad ogni tipo di sviluppo. Basata su ARDUINO UNO, ma con capacità e potenza tali da poter gestire motori passo-passo con assorbimenti di corrente fino a 4 ampere. Il controller può gestisre gli stepper sui tre assi: X,Y,Z, il mandrino in PWM , il filo caldo di un plotter per polistirene, il solenoide della lama di un plotter da taglio per vinile, un laser CO2 o a diodo. Una buona base, insomma, per fare un pò di sperimentazione o da utilizzare con tutte le apparecchiature a controllo numerico del mio laboratorio. Questo progetto ha contribuito a consolidare le conoscenze che ho acquisito in questo settore con l'esperienza e con lo studio. E ..... mi sono tanto divertito. Ah ... a proposito .... funziona anche :). In questo video ho deciso di tralasciare le immagini della costruzione per dare spazio ad una serie di informazioni tecniche che possono essere utili a chi vorrebbe cimentarsi in una esperienza simile. Scrivetemi pure, sia quì sotto nei commenti che su instagram o sulla mia pagina FB. Sarò lieto di condividere con voi ciò che ho imparato o, semplicemente, di fugare (dove posso) dubbi o curiosità. Instaling z probe on my homemade arduino uno based CNC. Its very simple, just connect probe wires to arduino uno ground (GND) and A5 pins. Attach probe clamp to bit and put probe underneath .
