Chromaverb is unique in that its modelling is based on the sound absorption characteristics within a real space, like a room or hall. Here we’ll look at three easy to tweak parameters that help give it the tonal shaping characteristics that make it so good.
Deciding how long a reverb tail to use in your mixes encompasses a lot of variables. What is the tempo of the song? How busy are the parts? Are there a lot of open spaces between phrases, or are they densely packed together? Do you want to convey a sense of an intimate closer space, or a larger distant space? These are just some of the considerations that play an important role in communicating the intended emotion of the music. In this video I use Logic’s ChromaVerb with tempo synced decay and pre-delay values, to create a lush enveloping reverb on a lead vocal focused pop ballad.

We tend to overlook everything that can be done and everything we can change to make it better suited to this track. So in this video, I had a little bit of a more in depth look at Logic’s reverb plugin, Chromaverb. I think that it’s a fantastically versatile, adaptable plugin! I show you the setting to achieve a shimmering reverb sound with the pretty decent sounding plugins included in Logic Pro X. You can take advantage of a reverb mode in a plugin called Chromaverb, that offers a dense type of reverb. But that's not all, because we need to create some extra movement and to do some adjustments before the instrument reaches the reverb. For a decade or so, I've been a happy user of 2CAudio's Reverb plugins, but I recently got a MacBook Air M2, and these plugins are not yet compatible with Apple's ARM processors. Thus, I'm on a quest to find the best Plugin Reverb for Classical Guitar. I downloaded trial versions of all plugins that caught my ear, and are compatible with Apple's silicon. Hardware reverb effects like Strymon's Big Sky are understandably popular right now, in part because of the clouds of long, lush reverb they can produce so beautifully. If you're looking for an in-the-box equivalent within Logic Pro X, try the Freeze function in Chromaverb, which Jono Buchanan is exploring in this episode. This takes a snapshot sample of the reverb's 'state' at the moment the Freeze function is turned on, producing a sustained cloud of ambience.
