I made it over to Interlaken in Switzerland and with in 24 hours I managed to get around 80km of sightseeing in. I have very little knowledge of the area so the guided tour from Peter at Bumblebee Hang gliding was warmly welcomed. The flight was relatively easy with wide spread lift despite little sun getting through. I’m looking forward to seeing some more of these peaks over the next few weeks. Hopefully I can bring you a few more videos over the summer. Thanks loads to Bumblebee Tandem Hang Gliding for getting me up the hill and Peter for showing me around. If you’re in the area and want to have a go at hang gliding hit me up or hit Bumblebee up 🤍 #hanggliding

A tourist in Switzerland went on a hang glider for the first time and was forced to hold on for dear life after realizing he wasn’t strapped in. Just a second after takeoff from a 4,000-foot mountain top, Chris Gursky realized he was not attached and spent more than two minutes clinging to the bar as he sailed over trees. The pilot, who was properly strapped in, apparently forgot to hook him up. The tourist from Florida hung on as the pilot did his best to find a place for an emergency landing. #InsideEdition

This is a cautionary tale for fellow hangglider pilots. I made a critical error during my setup which caused my harness to separate from my wing and forced me to hold on to the control frame for my life. Fortunate circumstances led to me surviving this incident with relatively minor injuries. I was asked if I thought about landing in the ocean to possibly soften the landing. In the moment I had not thought of doing this, however I don't think that I would've decided to do so given my fast rate of decent, the low tide, and the fact that I risked not being able to swim while in my harness (although the risk of being trapped under my wing might have been significantly less considering I was no longer connected to it). It's very fortunate that the hang loop let loose while I was facing into the wind. The wind this day was consistent at about 20 mph. The fact that my crash landing was going into the wind meant that my ground speed was significantly slowed (as compared to if my crash landing was going down wind). Considering I used this hang loop setup for many flights in the mountains, this location is potentially the most fortunate place for such an incident to occur. I can't imagine having to hold on to the glider for much longer than I did. If this had occurred in the mountains, where the landing zone is much further away from the launch, I doubt that I would have had the strength to hang on for the duration of the flight out to the landing zone. Please be very vigilant when preparing to fly to avoid such an incident as this one. Fly safe my fellow pilots!

Professional hang glider pilot Wolfgang Siess from Tirol, Austria, has used a special camera to document his eight-minute descent from approximately 1,400 metres atop Monte Zoncoloan in northern Italy. Footage shows Siess take off from the top of the mountain on his speed run, where he weaves in and out of hillsides and trees. If the immediate terrain wasn't enough of a challenge, Siess dodges cablecars that run across the hillsides. Despite the terrifying nature of the descent, Siess makes his way down safely, while experiencing breathtaking scenery around Monte Zoncolan. Siess told Newsflare: "This run is so long, eight minutes from top to bottom. "When you fly full speed and the terrain is just perfect for speed flying [there are] so many spots were you can get nice and low! "Flying is basically first nature for me, there is nothing that makes me happier than flying a hang glider! "I love the mountains and amazing views, on the right day you can see the ocean and the dolomites with one 360 turn. "[It took] years and years of training, this is the most dangerous form of hang gliding, I'm flying now for over 20 years." The footage was captured on July 29, 2019. Simple Progression for Teaching Hang Gliding

This is a 5-min video FOR INSTRUCTORS that breaks an intro lesson into it's most basic parts, and stresses that teaching needs to be a progression of smaller steps, guided in accordance with the fundamentals of instruction. We can not teach someone to launch if they struggle with picking up the glider, and we can't put them in the air until we've taught them how to land first. The end goal is creating that 'Eureka' moment and hooking the student on hang gliding... and we do this by ensuring their first flights are a hugely positive and fun experience. Regarding the technical content of this lesson, I understand different schools might follow a slightly different progression depending on the syllabus or training facilities available to them (such as teaching wheel landings to start out). This video is an example of A PROGRESSION, not "THE" progression (this is what has worked best for the Voights). The key is the WAY it's taught- progression, clear & simple cues, and with an emphasis on the things that bring people back. We as a whole can't afford to lose any potential pilots! At face value this video provides new instructors with an excellent 'canned' intro lesson. Going deeper for more experienced instructors, the video stresses and demonstrates a lot of the complexities of instruction, be it an intro hang gliding lesson or anything else- taking something complex and delivering it in simple and straightforward, piece by piece steps.

Practicing top landings in not ideal conditions. It was a bit far right. Featuring the man, the myth, the legend - Clinton and we had a visit from Paul who was flying beforehand and flew to Newcastle beach in the paraglider. The people you meet in the flying community are awesome and the banter is always the best. The thing about practice and repetition of top landings is no landing will be the same as another, it will not feel the same as your previous one and don't expect it to be. So many variables come into play like wind strength, direction, timing, bar pressure, speed, activity around launch and the list goes on. You have to be very visual and understand what is happening around you. Been slacking on the Youtube videos and I have LOADS on the hard drive. Amazing footage coming with an Insta360 and drone too. Check out her music here: Spotify: 🤍 Itunes: 🤍 This is the story of Chris Bolfing's and my cross-country hang gliding flight from the E launch at Lake Elsinore CA to San Clemente out at the coast. The straight-line distance is about twenty miles. We could have been more organized, but it all worked out fine, and we had great fun. Fatal Hang Gliding Mishap During Idaho Air Show

563978

00:12:01
29.12.2020

On June 2, 2018, about 1338 mountain daylight time, an experimental, amateur-built North Wing Pulse 10M hang glider, N62073, collided with the ground while participating in an airshow at Mountain Home Air Force Base (KMUO), Mountain Home, Idaho. The commercial pilot sustained fatal injuries and the hang glider sustained substantial damage. The hang glider was registered to and operated by the pilot as a Part 91 flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan was filed for the local flight, which departed KMUO about 1332. The premise of the pilot's airshow routine was a comedy act in which he would simulate inadvertently flying the hang glider into an active airshow, interrupting another airplane that was performing an aerobatic routine. The plan was for the hang glider, which was equipped with smoke canisters and a series of trailing streamers, to be towed past show center while the aerobatic airplane made a series of close passes, eventually cutting the streamers. Throughout the routine, the rehearsed radio interactions between the hang glider pilot, aerobatic pilot, and the show announcer were transmitted over the public address system. During a typical airshow, the hang glider was launched by a moving tow-launch system composed of a winch trailer pulled by a truck. The truck and trailer then travelled back and forth down the runway spinning out the tow line while the winch operator maintained line tension as the hang glider climbed to the desired altitude (usually 1,500 ft). The pilot typically released the line once the truck had turned around after the third pass. The pilot would then begin to perform a series of gliding maneuvers down to the ground, while the line, which was equipped with a parachute, was rewound back into the winch spool as it descended. On the day of the accident, the performance began and progressed uneventfully until the end of the truck and winch trailer's second runway pass. After being given the all-clear by the hang glider pilot, the truck and winch trailer turned around as planned and began to accelerate along runway 12 in anticipation of the pilot releasing the line. The winch operator stated that, a few seconds after the turn, he looked up and noticed that the hang glider was about 500 ft below the altitude at which he would typically expect to see it. The hang glider then performed an aggressive turning maneuver and descended another 500 ft. The winch operator then released the winch pressure to supply the hang glider with more slack and prevent it from being impeded by line tension. The hang glider then entered a climb, rolled to the left, descended, and impacted the ground in a nose-down attitude. Neither the air boss nor the winch operator saw the line parachute deploy. Multiple airshow attendees reported to news media that the tow line was cut by the aerobatic airplane during the routine, however, examination revealed that the line was intact and undamaged. The 62-year-old pilot had broken his neck in a hang-gliding accident in 1981 and had been a T7 paraplegic since. Two witnesses provided statements regarding the weather conditions over the area at the time of the accident. The first was a working volunteer who was also a hang glider pilot, and the second was a pilot who had just been flying a P-51 Mustang in the airshow, and was located immediately east of the accident site, and still in his airplane. Both witnesses described seeing dust devils over the area before and immediately after the accident. The first witness described a dust devil with a well-defined vortex extending to about 200 ft above the ground. He stated that only a small amount of dust outlined the vortex's shape, and that he pointed out the dust devil to a friend who also witnessed the event. The second witness saw several large dust devils over the airport area during the accident period. He indicated that the winds were light and variable until the pyrotechnic display and related fire started, after which strong vertical wind flows followed. Immediately after the accident, he noticed a dust devil to the south of his position travel across the audience. He described it as a large "lumbering" dust devil with a diameter of 40 to 80 ft that extended from 300 to 1,000 ft high. He noticed it blowing dust and disturbing papers, and people in the audience were holding their hats due to the sudden winds. He was able to observe the dust devil for about 5 to 10 minutes before he lost sight of it. Based on the movement and location of the dust devil, he extrapolated that it was likely over the area of the accident at the time of the event. Per the USPA dust devils are considered major hazards among skydivers and paragliding pilots, as they can cause a parachute or a glider to collapse with little to no warning at altitudes too low to cut away; they contribute to the serious injury or death of many parachutists. 0:00 Video 1 0:24 Video 2 1:16 Video 3 5:03 Video 4 11:00 Photos

The last week we had a little bit of a hang gliding league/competition and this was task two of two as the weather didn’t play ball for any more. We originally had a plan to fly a 80km task to the south and back but due to the low cloud and late day we ended up changing the task for a shorter route over towards Omarama. Nice to explore this area with the hang glider and thanks to 🤍Don't Show Mum for the ride out to the flying site in the plane 🤙🏼

I finally flew off a mountain! My dream came true! After a year of training at Blue Sky and obtaining H2 rating, I felt that I’m ready to take this next step. I hang waited one whole day before this day and with the consistent tail wind the chance of me flying was slim, but my friends’ wind dance helped!!!! I’m extremely excited and proud I came this far. Typo in the intro, the place is called “Rising Fawn” not Raising Fawn.

Sometimes your day can just go from great to not so great haha I left the GoPro on for too long and wanted to save the battery on the front camera for landing but at least the day was great in the end and still have the landing on the rear GoPro. I am slowly trying to work out my video and audio setup for Youtube. I have tried a few times with my lapel mic but haven't found the best spot just yet. A mate has suggested a great idea of having it coming from the top of the helmet. Once it is sorted I will start doing proper videos :P Hope you enjoyed this flight. Many people have asked for raw flights and decided to keep this one raw. Couldn't have asked for a better day! Follow my journey Subscribe to the Youtube channel for future videos and follow 🤍Cameron_Evans on Instagram for the latest updates and content. Also the quality should be better in this video as I filmed it in 2k, ENJOY :) See you in the skies of the world

English below. Encore un vol en triangle au départ de Laragne, mais la subtilité des conditions aérologiques rend chaque vol unique, et au final on se construit des souvenir plein la tête. A new triangle flight from Largane, but subtleties of aerological conditions make every flight unique and finally we end the day with great memories.
