Canada Road Trip: Best Things To Do In Newfoundland

NEWFOUNDLAND IS AWESOME! In this video, we showcase the BEST things to do in Newfoundland, including St. John's, Gros Morne National Park, Trinity, Twillingate, and more! Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to Newfoundland! Newfoundland was our first province during the Road to 150, our 150-day road trip across Canada. We experienced icebergs, fjords, walking on the Earth's mantle, humpback whales, kitchen parties, and swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. But most of all, we fell in love with the people, which is a big part of what makes Newfoundland such a special place. We drove to and through every driveable province and territory, showcasing Canada's natural beauty and regional attractions while interviewing Canadians of all cultures and backgrounds, including local celebrities, immigrants, refugees, and everyday rural and urban Canadians. Our aim was to dig deep into what makes Canada such an incredibly inspiring country while showing off the best of Canada's tourism to Canadians and to the world. Newfoundland - The easternmost tip of North America

In Newfoundland, at the easternmost tip of North America, the landscape is pristine, dramatic, and very sparsely populated. In summer, icebergs occasionally drift along the steep cliffs. When the "Titanic" collided with an iceberg and sank just 300 miles off the coast of Newfoundland in 1912, the last radio messages were picked up in a small wooden hut on the Avalon Peninsula. Today, most Newfoundlanders live on Avalon. There are particularly many seabirds here. In Witless Bay, the newborn puffins are ready for their first descent into the Atlantic. But some stray onto the coastal road, attracted by the lights of the hotels and restaurants. In doing so, they run the risk of being run over. A team of volunteers saves the lives of countless young birds: The Puffin & Petrel Patrol goes out at night dressed in high-visibility vests to collect the puffins. Biologist Sabrina Wilhelm then brings them back to Green Island, home to the largest puffin colony in North America. Here, the birds catch up on what they should have done long ago: the first dive of their lives. Hasan Hai and his friends are known throughout Newfoundland as the MerB'ys, male mermaids. For the third time, they are putting together a calendar for which they pose in colorful makeup, beard, tail fin and full of irony on Newfoundland's most beautiful coasts. The MerB'ys are convinced that macho posturing and the concealment of feelings are out. Sales of the calendars now bring in several hundred thousand dollars a year for a good cause. This time, the money goes to an association that fights domestic violence in Newfoundland. Kim Orren and her husband Leo Hearn also have to deal with outdated role models. The couple teaches girls and young women how to catch fish professionally on the open Atlantic. The fishing industry is still firmly in male hands. Leo now reveals the secrets of fishing to women, unlike generations of men before him. Jill Curran has saved the condemned lighthouse house in Ferryland from ruin. Her grandfather was the last keeper here, and the building had been rotting since the 1990s. In 2002, Jill quit her job in the oil industry and invented what she calls Lighthouse Picnics. Guests can spread out all over the hill and are found by the service crew thanks to a self-developed system of former signal flags. The service crew consists exclusively of women ranging in age from 17 to well over 70. From the lemonade to the bread to the roast beef, everything on the hill is homemade. And in the bay in front of it, the whales pass by. Dan Barter of Florida searches for the roots of his own family history with his grown daughters in Newfoundland. As a young boy, he rowed with his grandfather in a homemade wooden boat. Now the extended family spends their annual vacation in the small town of Winterton, working with boat builder Jerome Canning to build a traditional dory. But before that, the daughters have to become real Newfoundlanders: Whoever dares to kiss a dead cod and empty a glass of rum in one go gets a certificate of naturalization straight away.

Why did it Take so Long for Newfoundland to Join Canada? (Short Animated Documentary)

Canada and Newfoundland remained separate from 1867 to 1949. But given their close proximity, cultural connections and economies, why did it take so long? Overland Adventure on the Trans Labrador Highway to Newfoundland - E.1 - The Road Trip Begins!

#overland #jimbairdadventurer #outdoors Overland Adventure on the Trans Labrador Highway to Newfoundland - E.1 - The Road Trip Begins! Overlanding is vehicle-supported, self-reliant adventure travel, typically exploring remote locations and interacting with other cultures. That's what my family and I were on our way to do. After a lot of outdoor gear preparation, we loaded our off-road teardrop trailer by off-grid trailers and headed for the Trans-Labrador Highway. We were hauling the trailer with a very capable, full-sized off-roading truck, the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2, and an amazing Overlanding pick-up truck. After completing the Trans-Labrador Highway (god willing), we planned to take a ferry over to the island of Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula where we'd fly into a remote outfitter's cabin and hunt moose before heading out on several amazing treks in Gros Morne National Park. In all, we'd be on the road for an entire month. This is the first video in a multi-part series I'm running on my channel so please stick around as the episodes will just get better and better. - Please subscribe to my YouTube channel to catch this adventure series and click the bell icon to receive a notification when I upload a new video. NEWFOUNDLAND, Canada (4K Island Tour) Stunning Drone/Walking/Aerial 4K Footage

NEWFOUNDLAND, Canada (4K Island Tour) features stunning and spectacular aerial, walking, and drone video footage, great for travel, visit, vacation, and tourism planning set to original music. Newfoundland is a large island off the east coast of the North American mainland and the most populous part of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It has 29 percent of the province's land area. The island is separated from the Labrador Peninsula by the Strait of Belle Isle and from Cape Breton Island by the Cabot Strait. It blocks the mouth of the Saint Lawrence River, creating the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, the world's largest estuary. Newfoundland's nearest neighbour is the French overseas collectivity of Saint Pierre and Miquelon. With an area of 108,860 square kilometres (42,031 sq mi), Newfoundland is the world's 16th-largest island, Canada's fourth-largest island, and the largest Canadian island outside the North. The provincial capital, St. John's, is located on the southeastern coast of the island; Cape Spear, just south of the capital, is the easternmost point of North America, excluding Greenland. It is common to consider all directly neighbouring islands such as New World, Twillingate, Fogo and Bell Island to be 'part of Newfoundland' (i.e., distinct from Labrador). By that classification, Newfoundland and its associated small islands have a total area of 111,390 square kilometres (43,008 sq mi). According to 2006 official Census Canada statistics, 57% of responding Newfoundland and Labradorians claim British or Irish ancestry, with 43.2% claiming at least one English parent, 21.5% at least one Irish parent, and 7% at least one parent of Scottish origin. Additionally 6.1% claimed at least one parent of French ancestry. The island's total population as of the 2006 census was 479,105. Top 5 BEST Places to Live in Newfoundland

Here is the much anticipated video on Newfoundland! In this video I cover what I believe to be 5 of the best places to call home in Newfoundland. Like I mentioned in this video, we are going to dedicate an entire video to Labrador. Leave some suggestions for the type of video you'd like to see. Newfoundland is a very isolated yet special place and it is one of Canada's most hidden gems. There are some fantastic places in Newfoundland you could call home. After visiting St. John's, NL in February of 2020, my outlook on the province completely changed, it blew my already high expectations out of the water, and I cannot wait to go back. If you were to move to Newfoundland, where would you like to settle? What towns/cities did I miss? Be sure to like, comment and subscribe for more! Thanks for watching!

The Irish of Newfoundland, Canada 1981

‘The Forgotten Irish’ is a community of Irish people living over two thousand miles from Ireland in Newfoundland, Canada, whose ancestors left their home country six generations ago. Radharc looks at a colony of Irish people for whom time has stood still. They speak with Irish accents, use Gaelic phrases, sing Irish songs, use old Irish farming techniques and gut fish the way their ancestors did in the 18th century. Aidan O’Hara encounters this community of sixth generation Irish in Cape Shore, Newfoundland, Canada. On his journey Aidan speaks to Professor John Mannion, Memorial University of Newfoundland, who has carried out detailed research into the Irish story in Newfoundland. Prof. Mannion argues that the Irishness is largely due to isolation but sees that this isolation is becoming less and less and the Irish communities are becoming more and more open to influences from American and Canadian mainstream society. O’Hara also speaks to George Careen, Paddy Judge, Caroline Brennan, Alban Powers, and Mick Nash, who tell their stories of how their families came to live so far from Ireland and yet retain so many aspects of their Irishness. There are scenes of dancing and singing that would not be out of place in the rural or Gaeltacht Ireland of times gone by. Religion is central to community life and while the priests may be Canadian many of them have been trained in Ireland and maintain a strong Irish connection. At the funeral of Ignatius McGrath, it is evident that the traditional Irish wake continues. But will this tradition die with him? Fr. Charles Kelly believes that much of the folklore and oral traditions will be lost in everyday life and become purely a subject for academic study. The cultural isolation in which the Irish immigrants lived has meant the survival of Irish traditions, beliefs, superstitions, folklore and culture. However, new roads, electricity supplies, improved services and of course television are opening up the Cape Shore to outside influence.

Exploring Newfoundland the East Coast of Canada

Finally after 3 years of procrastinating editing this film I've finished my first travel documentary on Newfoundland, Canada. It started originally as a test project to get back into the flow of filming but turned into a full video of my trip. I kept putting it off because I judged my old shaky footage among other things, but finally said enough is enough it's time to finish my older projects to get up to date and working on new videos. I sped up my editing process and got this video finished even with a few rough corners. My microphone broke during the second half of the edit (8 months in between editing) and I did the voice quieter while my roommates were in bed sleeping, I made the amateur mistake of filming a lot while music was playing on my truck stereo which happened to all be YouTube banned so I had to drown it out with other music, and I handheld the gopro which led to a lot of squelching and other unwanted audio sounds. BUT, I'm happy to say the video is done and still a project I'm proud of. Now, just to crank out the edits for my Myanmar film, China film, and my short Australia film and I'll be back to filming and editing brand new projects. Hopefully improving with each one! Hope you enjoy my journey through Newfoundland in eastern Canada. While perusing tutorials to help me make my maps better I stumbled upon a pretty awesome map template from Mike Dewey for only $5. It was too good to pass up so I chose to buy it and edit off the template. Credit where credit's due, link is below if you want to get amazing maps as well. Mike Dewey TRAVEL MAPS TEMPLATE - 🤍
