It's a really odd feeling when you leave your dock knowing your boat will not return unless you sail all the way around the world to get there. It's a combination of very exciting and scary at the same time. It's also quite normal feeling, like we're just going for a day sail - but also quite a relief that after years of planning, the day of our departure has finally arrived. In this episode we check in on everyone's feelings and expectations. A small group of friends and family see us off the dock and we have one of our best nights ever at anchor. It was truly beautiful that evening, which helped all of us soak in the excitement for what lies ahead. What a wonderful world - to see! POSTING DAILY ON SOCIAL: 🤍 🤍 🤍 - ABOUT US: We are a family of five sailing around the world on a performance catamaran named "Archer" and sharing our adventures in family-friendly episodes on YouTube! OUR ROUTE: We departed the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States and sailed down to the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal. We have dealt with massive repairs in the South Pacific, the Coronavirus lock down in New Zealand, a Category 5 Cyclone in Fiji, and now we are cruising in Australia. OUR PAST: You may remember us as "SV Honeymoon?" Ten years ago ("before kids"), we sailed a Lagoon 380 named Honeymoon halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences via YouTube and, by happenstance, created one of the very first "sailing channels." We also realized what an incredible experience we were having and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with kids. FAQ: More questions? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions page on our website or answers to many of your questions in this 40 minute episode: 🤍 🤍 PLEASE COMMENT!: As a channel with kids on-board, we are required to actively monitor all comments, but we still want to hear from you. From 2016 to 2020 I sailed single-handed around the world on 'Fathom', a Vancouver 28 pocket cruising boat after leaving my job, career and land life in my wake. My voyage was the adventure of a lifetime and I returned home to the UK 4 years and 3 months later. 37,200 nautical miles had passed under the keel in a solo circumnavigation via the Panama Canal and South Africa. This is my attempt at piecing together a 2-part film about my adventures in the Voyage of Fathom. I hope you enjoy watching. Part 1: In this first episode, I depart the Isle of Wight, UK, in May 2016 and sail south to the Cape Verde Islands before crossing the Atlantic to the Caribbean. After transiting the Panama Canal I cross the Pacific Ocean in 2017 and the Indian Ocean the following year before arriving in South Africa in late 2018. My boat is called 'Fathom', an 8.5m Vancouver 28 built by Northshore in 1991. Long keeled, cutter rigged and with plenty of storage, she is the perfect pocket ocean cruiser. From swimming alongside dolphins and sharks to humpback whales and manta rays, perfect tradewind sailing to storms and breaking waves, trips on dugout canoes in the San Blas to Pirogues in Madagascar, there were plenty of unforgettable experiences. Brian and Karin Trautman have been living on a sailboat for 10 years, and their boat is set up so they can be off the grid in remote places for months at a time with solar and wind power providing electricity, a water maker that turns salt water into fresh water, multiple freezers and loads of storage space for food, and even a small washing machine on board! They've sailed SV Delos – a 53' sloop rig ketch – 83,000 nautical miles which is the equivalent of circling the earth at the equator more than 3 times. Their latest adventures include sailing as a family with their 6-month baby, Sierra, and outfitting the boat with a heater so they can explore the Arctic this summer after several years in the Tropics. It feels like we just landed on MARS! After our 4 day passage from Puerto Vallarta, we finally make landfall in one of the most alien like environments we've ever encountered in 13 years of sailing around the world. It's so wild that we can spend the last few months in lush jungles like Panama and Costa Rica, and now here we are arriving in our floating home into a full on desert. But what's even more fascinating is that the vast and barren landscape above the surface is such a sharp contrast to what lies under the surface of the sea. We dive an incredible shipwreck called the Feng Ming, and have one of the strangest and most incredible encounters with a sea turtle that we still can't really explain. SAILING around the world in a TINY boat! Meet Yann Quenet, a Frenchman who designed and built his 4m yacht in his garage and decided to sail around the world... I had the privilege of chatting to him when he arrived in Richards Bay after a gruelling sail from Reunion Island, around the southern part of Madagascar. Why is he doing this? Because it's been his childhood dream and he wants to meet new people.... Is he crazy? Some may say so. Yann is the most humble, down to earth person I have met in a long time and I love that he is always smiling and full of the joy of life! In this video you will see inside his tiny home and find out how he sails with only one mast. He also explains the design of his boat and how he built it. Although it may seem crazy to sail around the world, once you analyze the various wind patterns and hurricane seasons and with a bit of planning it’s quite reasonable for anyone with a sense of adventure to do the same. There’s lots of ways to sail around the world. If you’re racing, you often use storms in the southern ocean to propel you along. It’s a completely different approach. One that requires serious boats that are built for those conditions. We on the other hand sail around the world by staying more or less in the trade wind belts. This stacks the odds in our favour. We often have the wind and waves behind, pushing us along and stay warm in the non-stop tropical conditions. BE BRAVE. I departed Kona, Hawaii after spending 9 months licking my wounds, repairing Triteia and exploring the Hawaiian Islands. Hi everyone! I would never believe the most scary yet beautiful sailing experince in my 27 years of sailing would happen in the waters right outside my hometown! I want to state that I under no circumstandses encourage anyone to head out in a storm force 10. On the other hand I will say that this is an amazing way to build confidence in yourself and your yacht. But to do this you will have to trust your boat and gear 100%, and make sure she can take it. To get to that level you will have to try in more and more wind and waves and observe how the boat, and not the least yorself, copes in the different conditions. And when the day comes you will at some time man up and go for it. If you dont trust yourself and the boat, but still force yourself to try, you will most lightly have a very frightening experience that will sit with you for a long time, maybe ruining your joy for the sport. So go prepeared. Anyway, step onboard and join me for this insane offshore rollercoaster ride! This Dufour Gib'Sea 51 is THE BEST MONOHULL for large families wanting to go exploring the world needing something strong, reliable, super roomy and yet affordable. A unique layout with 5 cabins which do not compromise on the giant salon, a practical galley, a huge walk-though cockpit and generous storage capacity for everything you need to live-aboard year around. This is basically the one boat out there that can make it possible for families who can't find anything to sail around the world without being on top of each other, or alternatively for a group of friends to go set sail together in search of the most perfect surf breaks and who need privacy from one another as well as a ton of room for their gear. Torea VI is the happy home of the most extraordinary family we have met! 🤍sailingwithsix (Look them up on Instagram and check their YouTube videos!) We are all madly in awe of them and of course of their boat, which has just now hit the market as they decided that it was time for them to look for a catamaran. It was a tough decision as they adore their boat and know they can trust her no matter what, but with a dad working remotely, all four kids home-schooled and two of them fast becoming teenagers, it is time to look for something larger. This beautiful boat is brought to you in turnkey condition, with two subsequent owners, (her previous French family who sailed her to Australia with a bunch of kids too, and her current family), who both continually improved on her design to suit her to serious offshore cruising and independence when living on board. (Please note this boat is now sold and the family is off to Mexico to purchase their next boat, but a very interesting video to watch if you seek inspiration on how to fit out a similar boat for live-aboard living and independent world cruising, especially with a large family!). - For more information please get in touch with us. In spite of the restrictions imposed by Covid-19 we have been able to help families begin their cruising dreams thanks to video calls and completely open communication Let us know if you have any questions, would like to chat with the owners, or find out how to survey, purchase, register, import , deliver your new boat home, or how to come to meet us here in Fiji and start your live-aboard life in paradise. There are no silly questions and we would simply love to welcome you to our cruising community! Music Credits: Kid Francescoli. Moon. Play Me Again. Julia Minkin, Simon Henner & Mathieu Hocine
WELCOME!!! To this full in-depth tour of my beautiful 1984 Beneteau Idylle 11.5m or 38' long sloop rigged monohull sailboat. My humble home upon the sea. Three years ago, I went up and down the East coast of the USA looking for a sailboat to buy. With a considerable amount of help and advice from my sailing mentor Don. I purchased this boat in Cape Cod Massachusetts for $23,000.00. At that time the boat was on the hard with it's mast down in an old boatyard miles and miles from the ocean. It was hard to imagine that it would be the boat for me. But after about a month of working with the seller and his broker. We splashed the boat, stepped the mast and sea trialed her. After that, I was confident the sailboat was what I was looking for. But after several major improvements and upgrades I've made during major refits. The boats value is now far greater than when I started. As is it's practical usability can speaks for itself through the adventures I've had and showcase on my social media pages "Adventureman Dan". From this boat I love to explore and go on adventures wherever my anchor rests. The boats name perfectly explains what it represents: -Adventure: (An unusual and exciting or daring experience. Or to engage in daring or risky activity.) -Borne: (Carried or transported by the thing specified.) -Adventureborne = "What brings me to the adventure." This is a humble sailboat. But that is an upside I think. Because unlike most catamarans and other larger vessels. This sailboat is highly affordable and has an extremely low cost to maintain. Allowing me to be able to sail and cruise full time. Without worry of breaking the bank. On top of that, my main expense out here in the Bahamas would be food. But nearly a decade of spearfishing around the world has given me the capability to consistently harvest food from around my sailboat through freedive spearfishing. Allowing me to further extend my time at sea. While feasting and sharing it's bounties with my fellow sailors. In the future I plan to make more improvements and upgrades to this boat. Stay tuned to see what comes next! . . More adventure content on: -Facebook: 🤍 -Instagram: 🤍 -Website: 🤍 . . . All music through Epidemic 🤍Epidemicsound.com

Hello Friends, This is the long format episode that chronicles my 32 day, 2300 nm passage from Los Angeles to Honolulu onboard my 1965 Alberg 30 sailboat SV TRITEIA. 1000 miles from Hawaii my rudder failed due to striking a submerged object (that was painted red). After failed attempts to secure the control lines to the rudder due to large seas and high winds I was forced to steer with a small "Sea Squid" drogue for 18 days. Triteia is equipped with a vintage Sailomat Aux Rudder wind vane which helped a great deal but was far undersized compared to the large rudder attached to Triteia’s full keel. The Windvane started to fail internally soon after the rudder failure. I was able to make a makeshift tiller handle that allowed me to turn the boat to get it back on course but the self steering started popping out of gear and stopped working completely while I crossed the channel between Molokai and Oahu forcing me to sit on the transom and hand steer for the last 6 hours of this intense passage. If you would like to read the twice + daily blog posts I made during the crossing you can find those here: 🤍 (update: Rudder Repaired May 2022 - 🤍 ) MY SHORE TEAM! A much needed shout out to my amazing Shore Team for this passage! Some of you signed up by accidentally being related to me and the rest of you accidentally signed up because I love you, value your opinion and had your phone numbers. David Frederick: My big brother and Executive Director of US Cyber Command for the NSA. David kept me safe with twice daily ship reports, checking on my mental health and used his army training to advise me about operating under fatigue and high stress. Colby Thorp: My baby brother, a US marine and a padi certified search and rescue diver. Colby managed all of my accounts while I was away including the SOS email and secured a trailer for Triteia’s return trip. Thanks to his girlfriend Ashley for her help as well! Sarah Koenig: A singer / Songwriter and One of my closet friends for the last 18 years. Sarah was only a message away with any questions I had, Google searches daily and kept my spirits up sharing all of the nice comments on Instagram and YouTube. She also looked into general delivery to Hawaii and called ahead to the Harbor Master in Oahu to confirm details for me. Captain David Stovall: 200-Ton Masters Near Costal License Holder, Screen writer and a Texan so we are likely kinfolk. Stovall keep me updated with ships if I had questions while my brother was at work. He helped me work out the drogue steering and called BoatUS trying to get me a tow into port. Captain Noah Peffer: 50-Ton Masters Near Costal License Holder, Professor of Nautical Sciences, Artist and dear friend. I hold Noah’s opinion as gospel and he has saved my ass on the last two passages. He is the one I bug when I am terrified. I also want to thank my little brother Scott for checking on me, My oldest friend (since 3rd grade) Chance everything and My Buddy Dane for always being there. I can never repay you guys and I don’t know what I would have done without you all! Forever in your debt ! 50 years after the Golden Globe race that marked the start of solo non-stop circumnavigations, a new group of sailors will set off in boats no longer than 11.3m (37ft) using the same equipment that was available to the pioneers back in 1968. The original race was won by Sir Robin Knox Johnston and together with the World Sailing Show, we look at solo circumnavigations, plot the massive reduction in record times and take a look at the second edition of the Golden Globe Race.

Born on a boat, Laura Dekker fell in love with sailing at a very young age. In her talk she discusses her adventures in sailing and being the youngest circumnavigator to sail alone around the world.
