Visual memory is recollected information about what one has seen. It involves both the mental storage of such information and the ability to retrieve it. The recalled image of a sunset, the memory of a font type, the remembrance of a tree's appearance: these are all instances of visual memory. Psychologists refer to visual memory to help account for memory in general. It is distinct from other kinds of memory, such as auditory memory (recollection of what one has heard). Some researchers believe visual memory plays an important role in learning. For example, some learning disabilities (including dyslexia) are linked to poor visual memory, such as the inability to remember the sequence of letters in words. 99% of the people out there don’t have photographic memory. Or do they? That may not sound like a promising statistic… but here’s what most people don’t understand. You DO NOT have to be BORN with a photographic memory in order to have incredible memory skills! In fact, some of the most incredible “memory masters” in the world are SELF TAUGHT. I know people who use to forget where they put their keys every day who can now memorize the order of 32 decks of randomly shuffled cards in an hour! Imagine having THAT kind of skill under your belt. Can you think of any areas in your life where insane memory skills could be useful? You’d be the one in the office who remembered anything and everything important… you’d be the go-to! Or you’d be the mom that never forgot to pick up her kids from soccer or who never forgot doctor's and dentist appointments. I think ANYONE could benefit from a better memory. Today, I’m going to teach you the skills you need to have the mind of an elephant. Stephen Wiltshire was born in April 1974. As a child, he was a very slow learner and didn’t say his first word until the age of five. His teachers & parents were concerned about him. Even-though, he was not able to speak as a child he was able to sketch accurate images of wildlife. As Stephen grew up, he began drawing buildings that he was seeing around London with detail. Once he took a 20-minute helicopter ride of New York and then sketched it onto a 19-foot-long paper. When scientists studied Stephen's brain, they found that he has the Savant syndrome which is a rare disorder found in few people. This disorder gives people some mental abilities which exceeds the abilities of normal people such as rapid calculation, mapping or musical ability. Bad neuro-development can result in Savant syndrome or it can also be triggered by a brain injury. We know that we see objects in the environment by virtue of the workings of the visual system. How do we hold these visual representations “in mind” when we can no longer see them, yet we need them to guide our behavior? Here, cognitive neuroscientist John Serences describes his influential experiment that tested one possibility: the sensory recruitment hypothesis. In so doing he also provides a cogent explanation of some of the logic underlying the multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA) of fMRI data. Want to increase your brain power and improve memory using image streaming? In this video, I'll show you exactly how to do it. What is image streaming? There's some disagreement on an exact definition, but it's basically a type of visualization exercise. We'll talk about Win Wenger's definition. Although it might help for basic creativity and problem solving, that's far from its full use. That's why I'll give you a more useful definition and take you through a detailed exercise and experience. So if you've ever wondered how to do image streaming, this will take you through both versions. For more on the two definitions of image streaming and implementation suggestions, please see: 🤍 As always, thanks to everyone for your interest and support. I look forward to your feedback in the comments and any questions you may have. In the meantime, if you don't have the FREE Memory Improvement Kit yet, please grab it here: 🤍 Thanks again and talk soon!
